the Old Kids on the Block

The “Old Kids” is a dance band in the style of the big bands of the 30’s and 40’s.  The big band recreates the glamour and romance of an era that lasted ten years.  Retired and semi-retired musicians are part of a resurgence of interests in glamorous live and romantic music.

The individuals that make up this group are versatile in their music and professions.  Included in the makeup of band are teachers, a surgeon, attorney, photographer, commercial pilot, engineer, store manager, health and elder co-coordinator, architect.  While there are a couple of youngsters, the average age is 78!

The band was formed in 1991.  It consists of six Saxes, four trombones, four trumpets, and four on rhythm, and vocalist.  They have always played for dancing and can be currently heard in Weymouth, at the Whipple Senior Center.

Not only couples enjoy the music but the band plays line dancing music for solo ladies & gentlemen. They have performed in summer concerts at Norwood, Brockton, Braintree, Stoughton, Bridgewater, Raynham, Taunton, Foxboro, and for fund raising concerts at Massasoit Community College and other civic and philanthropic organizations.

The “Old Kids” have been called a ‘living museum’. Their library of music of another era will have you humming, tapping and getting up on your feet.
