Scenes
“Just an Old Sweet Song” features the wonderful
melodies of the immortal Hoagy Carmichael including “Georgia
on my Mind”, “Heart and Soul”, “Skylark”, “Stardust”, “In
the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening”, and many more. Backed
by Tom LaMark on piano, this performance will include special
guest vocalist Lynda D’Amour! Ms. D’Amour has further
distinguished herself…appearing recently in a musical
revue directed by Bill Castellino…where she stopped the
show with a hysterical musical theater send-up, Here Comes The
Ballad (Davis/Vinaver). Her tribute to Sammy Davis, Jr. showed
off her impressive vocal range: She can belt. She can purr like
Ertha Kitt one minute, then dig down to the Delta for a growly
number like “Birth of the Blues”…or she can
whisper the sweetest notes you ever heard, so softly that they
brush gently by your ear. If that chameleon voice were not enough,
D’Amour is plenty funny, to boot…She’s got
it all: style, substance…Who could ask for anything more?
Ida Zecco who is also a vocalist directed the show. Ida Zecco
has appeared at Carnegie Hall in New York, Sculler’s Jazz
Club in Boston, and Trinity Rep in Providence. She won a 2005
IRNE Award as lead vocalist in Primavera! a tribute band celebrating
the music of Louis Prima, Keely Smith, Sam Butera, and “The
Witnesses”.
John Abernathy was recently featured in the 16th Annual New
York Cabaret Convention at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theatre
in a tribute to Broadway composer Jerry Herman sharing the stage
with legendary performers Lee Roy Reams, Michael Feinstein, Marilyn
Maye, and Mr. Herman himself. He received a 2005 nomination for
Best Male Cabaret Performer from the Independent Reviewers of
New England (IRNE) for his show “A Cock-Eyed Optimist” at
Club Café in Boston. John toured internationally as pianist
and soloist with the musical group “Up With People” including
a performance with the National Symphony Orchestra in Constitution
Hall.
Cost for show is $30.00, or $50 for the show with dinner.
